MWRI-CL and NWRC-CL: The Way Forward

The future vision of MWRI and NWRC Central Libraries is an optimistic one. It focuses on networking, integration and information sharing with other relevant libraries and information centers to provide more reliable and quick research services. Strategic plans of each of the Central Libraries can be highlighted as follows:

  • A library consortium, networking all MWRI departments and sectors and NWRC Research Institutes, is in progress through the LAN/WAN system using one-centralized library software.
  • On-the-job training will be provided to librarians from all institutes on using the Central Library software.
  • Expansion of acquisition of new e-resources to support research work.
  • Strengthening the links between the Central library and the Egyptian National Science and Technology Information Network (ENSTINET) through the protocol of agreement signed in 2001. Initiating new inter-library links with other libraries on the national, regional and international scales for information sharing and integration is targeted.
  • Information marketing by announcing for library activities using flyers, CDs, video films, etc. to acquaint researchers with the latest library innovations.
  • The library adopted the project of the "Revival of the History of Irrigation in Egypt." The aim is to protect the Egyptian heritage from damage by digitizing the rare historical manuscripts and saving them in e-form.
  • Collaborating with UNESCO and other expert houses in this concern is being planned.
